Mitra Petani Produktif (Productive Farmers’ Partner), abbreviated as MPP, is a social enterprise working in Indonesia. We help smallholder farmers grow more by providing proven agricultural inputs and improve crop yield at scale in form of combinations of simple, cost-effective inputs, like quality seeds and micro-dosing of fertilizer, along with training, to enable them to produce more crops.
MPP was founded in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, on June 18 2026 by Ali Maturahim, Nurnita Desriyani, and Lilik Widayanti. The three founders are observers of smallholder farmers' problems. Apart from that, each of them also has the skills and long experience that are really needed to increase the productivity of small farmers while freeing them from poverty, namely small-scale productive agricultural management, climate-smart planting, and agro-marketing.
In the Indonesian context, smallholder farmers are those who control or cultivate less than 0.5 hectares of land. They generally live in extreme poverty, although they have struggled to do additional work, mainly as farm laborers for larger farmers.
Despite the government's strenuous efforts to assist them, the number of smallholder farmers in the country has actually continued to rise. Between 2013 and 2026, their numbers increased by 18.5 percent, growing from 14.25 million to 16.89 million households.
